Details on Persimmon Pond PreservePersimmon Pond Preserve is a small preserve with most of the boundary line along the roadside. Walking in this area is for the most part easy and the boundaries should be in fairly good shape as we had our summer interns check them in summer of 2006. Some of the challenges at this preserve include swampy wet terrain, greenbrier, chiggers and ticks. The best time to do boundary work will be the late fall and winter when leaves are down, visibility is good and the ticks have died off. Roadsides adjacent to our preserves are often the site of dumping of household trash or deer carcasses. We have not had a big problem with this at Persimmon Pond but it could happen. While unsightly and upsetting, this seldom has an ecological impact on the property so we often can't respond very quickly. |
