Details on Crabtree Cave

This is a small preserve that only needs 1 Boundary Walker, but that volunteer must be a true mountain goat!  The boundary line climbs from 1700 to 2400 feet in a short distance, so it is very, very steep. The property is entirely forested and surrounded by State land so it feels very remote.  Because there are no neighbors, encroachment such as houses, shed or fences built on our land are very unlikely.  The main challenge to this job is just the physical challenge of getting around and keeping signs posted.

This preserve has a cave gate to protect its fauna.  The gate is sometimes vandalized by people wishing to gain entry.  That gate is checked up on by a local volunteer.

The preserve is not hunted but the surrounding state forest may be, so it would be best to avoid the area during deer hunting season.
