Just What is a BioBlitz
Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 9am-3pm

Just what is a BioBlitz? Why here? Why now? What are
all those field researchers doing? If these questions are
on your mind, please stop by our displays at Glen Echo
Park, the C&O Canal Visitor Center (the "Tavern") at
Great Falls (Maryland side), or the Great Falls Park
Visitor Center (Virginia side) to learn more about the
field research going on around you and why it is so
important. Also, learn about BioBlitz "Tools of the
Trade," including Berlese funnels, nets, and
other clever devices used to capture insects and other
critters for scientific inquiry.

Bug Safari!
Saturday 4pm and Sunday 11am

Join Conservancy Conservation Ecologist Deborah Landau as she searches the forests and streams around Glen Echo Park for insects of all shapes and sizes. Children of all ages are invited to bring their nets and bug jars to see what they can rustle up during a short hike through the woods.

"Butterfly Lady"
Saturday 9am to 5pm

In partnership with The Butterfly Market and the "Association for Butterflies: Conservation, Research,
Farming and Gardening," the "Butterfly Lady" joins us along with her various moths and butterflies. She will dazzle us with her monarchs in all states of metamorphosis and reports of growing and releasing Baltimore checkerspots!

Storyteller Extraordinaire
Saturday 9-9:45am and 3-3:45pm

Listen in while we venture through the forests with Br'er
Rabbit as he finds all sorts of trouble and fun with other
creatures and characters! The Br'er Rabbit stories are influenced by African and Native American lore and depicted by Walt Disney himself.

Protecting the Diversity of Life on Earth
Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 9am-3pm

Lands and waters today are being altered in ways
that threaten plants, animals, and our way of life.
But there is hope. The Nature Conservancy has
protected 117 million acres in 28 countries. Science
(like the Potomac Gorge BioBlitz) guides our work
by identifying the Earth's most important natural
places. Using innovative tools, we protect and
restore these priority sites. Learn how The Nature
Conservancy is working with communities and
partners to ensure the diversity of life on Earth and
enrich the quality of life now and for future
generations.
