If you are looking for a long term commitment to a unique site consider being a Preserve Monitor, Transfer Monitor, or an Eastment Monitor

Volunteer Preserve Monitor works with Stewardship staff at an assigned preserve to:

  • Visit assigned preserve as often as possible to monitor for unauthorized use (must visit at least once a year).
  • Fill out annual preserve report on the condition and needs at a particular preserve
  • Contact Maine Chapter staff to report issues that need to be addressed such as vandalism, sign repair, trail maintenance, etc.
  • Where applicable, keeps preserve brochures stocked in welcome box
  • The following preserves currently need a Preserve Monitor:
Brothers and Hay Ledge

Great Duck Island (Frenchboro)
Basin Preserve
(Phippsburg)
Mark Island
(W. Penobscot Bay)
Morse Mountain Preserve (Phippsburg) Trout Mountain
(T2 R9 WELS)
Moose River Preserve

Note: Volunteer Preserve Monitor position requires minimum three year commitment and monitors of island preserves may need access to boat or kayak.
 

Volunteer Easement Monitor works with Stewardship staff at an assigned conservation easement to:

  • Conduct annual easement compliance monitoring on their assigned conservation easement
  • Fill out annual easement monitoring report and take photos for easement documentation

The following easements currently need a volunteer monitor:

Falls Island (Trescott) Halifax Island (Jonesport)
Mt Abraham (Salem) Outer Scott Island (Deer Isle)
Welch Island (Sorrento) Lane’s Island (Vinalhaven)
Stave Island (Gouldsboro) Fernalds Neck (Lincolnville)

 
Note:  Island Easement Monitors may require boat access.
