Joe Wishcamper Returns to the Board of Trustees for The Nature Conservancy in Maine

Wishcamper Joins Armstrong, Milliken as Board’s Newest Members

BRUNSWICK, MAINE—29 November 2006— Former Board Chairman Lyndel “Joe” Wishcamper has returned to The Nature Conservancy’s Board of Trustees in Maine. Wishcamper led the board during the Conservancy in Maine’s largest capital campaign—the $57 million For Maine Forever campaign that secured the 185,000-acre St. John River purchase and other statewide conservation goals. Wishcamper joins C.D. Armstrong of Scarborough and Roger Milliken of Cumberland Center as the board’s most recent additions.

Wishcamper lives in Freeport and is Manager and President of The Wishcamper Companies, Inc., and several affiliated real estate development and management companies based in Portland. He serves on the Boards of Trustees of the University of Maine System and Maine Medical Center, as Board Vice-Chairman of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, and as a member of the Brunswick (Naval Air Station) Redevelopment Authority. In 2004, Wishcamper and wife Carol were honored as the Spurwink Institute Humanitarians of the Year for their extensive philanthropic work for causes in Maine including education, economic development and conservation.

“Joe’s experience during the St. John River Campaign and his commitment to issues that matter to the people of Maine will be a great asset to the Conservancy,” says David Flanagan, chair of the board of trustees. “We’re pleased to welcome Joe, C.D. and Roger to the board and look forward to benefiting from their expertise in business and conservation.”

Armstrong is President of Deering Lumber, Inc., a full service lumber and building supplies retailer with lumberyards in Biddeford and Kennebunk. He also serves as Chairman of the Friends of Scarborough Marsh and Director of the Forest Products Group Trust.

Milliken is President of the Baskahegan Company, which owns and manages 100,000 acres of forest in eastern Maine. Baskahegan’s lands were certified by the Forest Stewardship Council in 2004 after a stringent ecological audit. Milliken serves on The Nature Conservancy’s international Board of Directors, chairs the Advisory Board of the Manomet Forest Conservation Program, and is an advisor to the Open Space Institute’s Northern Forest Protection Fund. He is a past President of the Maine Forest Products Council and was co-founder of the Maine Forest Biodiversity Project.
