Armstrong, Milliken Join Board of Trustees for The Nature Conservancy in Maine

New members bring experience in business and conservation

BRUNSWICK, MAINE—20 September 2006— The Nature Conservancy in Maine welcomes C.D. Armstrong and Roger Milliken, Jr. to its board of trustees. Both new board members have long histories of working to conserve Maine’s natural resources.

Armstrong is President of Deering Lumber, Inc., a full service lumber and building supplies retailer with lumberyards in Biddeford and Kennebunk. He also serves as Chairman of the Friends of Scarborough Marsh and Director of the Forest Products Group Trust.

“We’re delighted that C.D. will be joining our board” says David Flanagan, chair of the board of trustees. “His strong understanding of and commitment to conservation will make him a valuable advisor and advocate for the Conservancy.”

Milliken is President of the Baskahegan Company, which owns and manages 100,000 acres of forest in eastern Maine. Baskahegan’s lands were certified by the Forest Stewardship Council in 2004 after a stringent ecological audit. Milliken serves on The Nature Conservancy’s international Board of Directors, chairs the Advisory Board of the Manomet Forest Conservation Program, and is an advisor to the Open Space Institute’s Northern Forest Protection Fund. He is a past President of the Maine Forest Products Council and was co-founder of the Maine Forest Biodiversity Project.

Milliken is currently writing a book about his experiences in conservation and forest management. This will be Milliken’s second term as a trustee for the Conservancy in Maine. He previously served on the board from 1995 to 2005.

“Roger’s broad experience in forest conservation and his long-standing relationship with the Conservancy in Maine and worldwide make him an outstanding trustee” says Flanagan. “It’s a pleasure to welcome him back to our board.”
