Why the Conservancy Selected This Site
Camden Hills State Park lies at the heart of Midcoast Maine's largest block of undeveloped land. The coastal mountains within and around the Park feature breathtaking views of Penobscot Bay and Lake Megunticook and support mature oak forests that provide high-quality wildlife habitat and protect water quality in the area.

Threats
More people enjoy day hikes in Camden Hills State Park than in any other park in Maine. This popularity has dramatically increased recreational pressures on the very natural resources that people come to enjoy. The Hills lie near towns such as Rockport, Camden, Lincolnville and others that are winessing unprecedented growth. Development along the Park boundaries fragments wildlife habitat and compromises classic views.

Wildlife
The Camden Hills support mature oak forests, bald eagles, and wide-ranging mammals such as fisher, otter and bobcat.

What the Conservancy Is Doing
The Conservancy recently had the opportunity to purchase three key parcels bordering Camden Hills State Park totalling 235 acres. Working with partners at Coastal Mountains Land Trust, we purchased these three strategic tracts which will eventually become part of the State Park.

The Conservancy must raise $3 million for the aquisition of these tracts and to ensure that they are properly managed in the future. While we are seeking public funds, significant private funding from individuals, foundations and businesses is crucial to our success.
