Persimmon Gully

Persimmon Gully Preserve is one of the best remaining wet longleaf pine savannas in southwest Louisiana. The site harbors ancient longleaf pines (some nearly 300 years old), rare Bachman's and Henslow's sparrows, as well as three rare plants (punctate blazing star, chaetopappa daisy, and silveus dropseed). A rare landscape feature, saline barrens, adds further importance to this wetland site. This preserve is not open for public visitation.

Location
About 25 miles northwest of Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish.

Size
255 acres

What the Conservancy Has Done/Is Doing
The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana is restoring the longleaf pine wetland savanna through prescribed burning and the removal of offsite pine.
