Schoolhouse Springs Preserve
What makes this preserve unique?
Schoolhouse Springs Preserve supports a spring-fed swamp, an uncommon type of forest wetland. This site was identified by the Natural Heritage Program as a "top ten priority." To date, six globally rare aquatic insects have been discovered inhabiting the springs. This preserve is not open for public visitation.

What the Conservancy Has Done/Is Doing
The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana is working to protect the rare aquatic insects that live here, including the micro-caddis fly and stone fly. The Conservancy is also working with adjacent landowners to keep ground water from interrupting with the springs on the preserve.
