From the north side of Indianapolis at the junction of I-465 and U.S. 31, go north on U.S. 31 for 0.75 mile to 106th Street. Turn left and travel 0.5 mile. Park along the roadside.
Meandering along Williams Creek, Bitternut Woods Preserve offers 22 acres of bottomland forest where enormous oaks and sycamores are emerging into a majestic second growth forest. Springtime at the preserve offers a unique opportunity to view the beautiful indigenous wildflowers, including wild ginger (Asarum canadense), appendaged waterleaf (Hydrophyllum appendiculatum), may apple (Podophyllum peltatum) and bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis).
