We will be doing some understory clearing at this unique flatwoods preserve. Understory clearing will be done with the use of brush cutters, hand saws and loppers, and then stumps will be treated with an oil-based herbicide.
Volunteers should dress for the weather, including rubber boots and gloves. Also bring a lunch or plan to get lunch at the local general store.
Directions: Meet in Chelsea at the General Store. Chelsea is located on State Road 62, 4 miles south of the intersection of State Roads 62 and 58.

Clearing Fire Breaks
10 am to 3 pm (Eastern)
Directions: Meet in Elizabeth at the 4-way stop. To reach Elizabeth take I-64 to Georgetown Exit #118. Travel east on Hwy 62 to Hwy 11 and bear left. Follow Hwy 11 south to the 4-way stop sign intersection in Elizabeth.

Structure Removal & Recycling
10 am to 2 pm (Eastern)
Volunteers will be helping to remove a old structure on the preserve and sorting materials for recycling. Attendees will be encouraged to take home scrapes of old barn wood for picture frames and whatever else they want to do with it. Bring gloves, boots, a good hammer, pry bar and a sturdy ladder (no larger than 10 feet, please) if you have one. Also bring plenty of drinking water and a lunch.
Directions: Meet at the Chelsea General Store in Chelsea, IN. It is located about 4 miles south of the State Road 56 and State Road 62 intersection on SR 62.
