Gibson Woods Nature Preserve, Lake County
9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Central)


Attend this moderate hike and learn about invasive species and how the are threatening beautiful wildflowers and butterflies at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve. Please wear sturdy footwear, long pants and a hat.  Bring water and a snack or bag lunch.

 

Gibson Woods is located at 6201 Parrish Avenue in Hammond, Indiana. We will meeting at the Nature Center.

Buena Vista Glade, Harrison County
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Eastern)


Buena Vista Glade is an expansive glade hosting a diverse array of plants and insects. We’ll be clearing invasive shrubs from the glade. After the workday those interested can join us for a hike at nearby Teeple Glade to see the coneflower populations in bloom. Bring gloves, loppers if you have them, water, and a lunch.

 

Meet at the 4-way stop in Elizabeth. To reach Elizabeth take I-64 to the Georgetown Exit #118. Travel east on Hwy 62 to Hwy 11. Bear left on Hwy 11. Follow Hwy 11 south to Elizabeth.

Kankakee Sands, Newton County 
9 a.m. to Noon (Central)

We will be helping the prairie by getting rid of two kinds of sweet clover. We will spend some time in Beaver Lake Prairie (owned by DNR's Division of Nature Preserves) as well as in one of the Kankakee Sands Restoration areas. Please bring gardening gloves, some water and a snack or bag lunch. After we have completed our mission, we will take a short hike through Beaver Lake Prairie, which is normally closed to the public. 

 

Meet at the Kankakee Sands Office at 3294 N U.S. Highway 41 (just north of Morocco).
