Brown County Native Woodlands ProjectSeveral individuals, who share the belief that we must act now to save our forests from the devastating impact of non-native invasive plant species, formed The Brown County Native Woodlands Project (BCNWP). This local initiative began in February of this year with area volunteers to minimize the effect of invasive species in Brown County. Some goals of the group include: educate landowners and land managers about the problem; train volunteers to help map non-native invasive plant infestations; encourage public and private entities and individuals to eradicate targeted species; hire crews to remove them, when necessary and where possible, using environmentally sound methods; and suggest native plant alternatives. The BCNWP meet about once a month to discuss local projects. Currently the group is mapping the occurrence of four primary invasive species along the roads in Brown County.
