Cycling has become quite popular in recent years and many Hoosiers are happily taking up the sport. Though many may not realize it, Indiana is a great state for cyclists. Its varied terrains and beautiful scenery really makes Indiana a perfect place to pedal.
Miles of dedicated mountain biking trails and shared-road circuits can be accessed across the state. Looking for a leisurely ride? Trails in the north, with its flat lands and pastoral views, are your best bet. Need a challenge? Then head south where the gently rolling to very hilly terrain will give you quite the workout.
One doesn't have to take to the road to cycle. There are also dozens of mountain biking trails throughout the state. The Hoosier National Forest, for example, has almost two hundred miles of natural trails for all types of cyclists to enjoy.
The Brown County mountain bike trail system is a nationally recognized trail system and is located entirely within Brown County State Park. The bike trails include four loops and three connector trails and over twenty miles of challenging trails. Other parks and forests that have designated mountain bike trails include Clark State Forest, Elkhart State Park, Ferdinand/Pike State Forest and Porter County Park.
Whether you're an elite rider to a budding enthusiast, prefer pavement to natural trails, Indiana has a number of cycling opportunities around the state for everyone to enjoy. So come on out and take a ride!
