Time:
10:00 am - 1:30 pm (Eastern)

Overview:
Be a part of The Nature Conservancy Indiana Chapter’s 50th anniversary by celebrating with the Brown County Hills Project!

Our open house will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2009 in the heart of the Brown County Hills Project outside of Nashville, Indiana. Join us for morning hikes starting at 10 am, a chili lunch at noon with special talks by The Nature Conservancy and partners. The location of the event will be kept a surprise until early December.

The Nature Conservancy is proud of the work we've been able to accomplish in Brown County and would love to help you explore some of the finest forests in these hills. From the bottomland forests near Lake Monroe to the dry upland forests of the Hitz-Rhodehamel Woods preserve, you can experience what makes this area so unique through our Brown County Passport contest.

Passport Contest:
In celebration of our 50th anniversary, a special Brown County Hills passport has been created that will take you to some of the more beautfiul areas of the hills. The passport will outline the sites to visit with directions, history of the site and special features to look for. We’ve even made this a contest, if you’re ready for the challenge. During our open house on December 12, we will award prizes to individuals for their participation.

Passport with maps and trails will be available Tuesday, November 3. To receive one, you must complete this waiver and submit it to kmacdonald@tnc.org or mail to:
The Nature Conservancy
Attn: Krystal Macdonald
1505 N. Delaware St., Suite 200
Indianapolis, IN 46202

Once the completed waiver is received, your passport will be sent to you via email or postal mail.

Trails in the Brown County Hills have been selected that highlight unique aspects of the area. Visit the sites at your own leisure, but the passport must be received no later than Friday, December 11 (if by mail) or Saturday, December 12 (in person if attending the open house). Return your passport directly to The Nature Conservancy’s Brown County Hills Project office or mail to:
1156 Old State Rd 46
PO Box 1092
Nashville, IN 47448

To confirm your visit to each site, pick up a passport stamp at the designated location noted in the passport. Take only one stamp per site, and place it in your passport. If there are no stamps at the trail location, please notify us. Questions are included in the passport as well. These questions might involve some “research” or it may be an observation at a preserve. These questions will serve as a tiebreaker if needed.

Anyone caught or suspected to have violated any of the rules above will forfeit their entry. Also, please be aware that deer hunting season for firearms run from Nov. 14 - 29. Several of the properties listed in the passport are hunted to reduce deer overpopulation. Please take precautions and wear bright colors when visiting each trail.
