April 2009 —
We’ve got great news—we’re now allowing boating and fishing at Emiquon! Beginning April 20, 2009, we’ll allow anglers and boaters with permits on on the west half of ThompsonLake at Emiquon between sunrise and sunset. If you’re interested, you’ll need to request a boating and fishing permit application and liability waiver and a complete list of rules between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the DicksonMoundsMuseum in Lewistown. You must carry a valid boating and fishing permit when on the water.
I’ve talked a lot in these pages about the many wonderful plants and animals that are attracted to Emiquon. We’ve worked with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to stock Thompson and FlagLakes—which now cover about 3,800 acres—with 1.7 million native fish like bluegill, crappie, bass, channel catfish and another two dozen species. Hope to see you there!
