Date:
Wednesday, November 30

Time:
6 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. lecture

Overview:
Rare reports of ivory-billed sightings leaked out of Arkansas’ swampy backwaters for decades, spreading hope as they came. Still, most conservationists were too afraid to believe that a bird long-thought-to-be-extinct could still cling to life. Yet, it did.

The recent confirmed sightings of the ivory-billed woodpecker in the Big Woods of Arkansas left enthusiastic birders—here and abroad—in awe. Scientists delighted. Learn more about this discovery from special guest speakers John Fitzpatrick, Director of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and Scott Simon, Arkansas State Director for The Nature Conservancy.

Also, see ivory-bill specimens and purchase a print of the bird. Since 1999, Field has worked with Oppenheimer Editions to recreate the most important images from its library collections in facsimile form. These are limited edition, collectible-quality prints. Various examples of the Oppenheimer Field Museum Editions — including the spectacular Audubon folio of Audubon’s Fifty Best — will be on display for the evening.
