Silver Creek Preserve Announces Spring Activities

Birding, Wildflower Walks, Art Classes offered at famous spring creek

PICABO, IDAHO — February 22, 2007— Spring Events Scheduled For Silver Creek Preserve

Learn to paint wildflowers. Take a snowshoeing trip. View the spectacular spring bird migration with a naturalist.

These are some of the options available on Silver Creek Preserve this spring. The preserve, in its 31st year of ownership by The Nature Conservancy, is also open to the public for birding, fishing, wildlife viewing and other outdoor activities.

Last year visitors came from all 50 states and 13 countries to enjoy the preserve’s world-renowned fly fishing and birding.

The 850-acre property has been recognized as a model for community-based conservation. An important part of the conservation success along Silver Creek has been the donation of conservation easements by other landowners in the valley. To date, 22 landowners have donated nearly 10,000 acres of easements, protecting nearly the entire main stem of Silver Creek from development.

The ongoing visitor activities offer a way for the community to learn more about the preserve and experience it in different ways.

“Spring is an incredible time to see birds on the preserve, and the wildflowers are beginning to bloom,” says Dayna Smith, Silver Creek Preserve manager. “We hope people are able to join us and see for themselves why Silver Creek is considered one of the finest spring creeks in the world.”

Many events are free; some have a small charge. Contact the Silver Creek Preserve Office at (208) 788-7910) for details.
