Formation Springs

At the base of the rolling Aspen Mountains, less than five miles outside of Soda Springs, this 195-acre preserve supports a series of remarkable geological formations surrounding magnificent terraced mineral pools and an underground cave. It is a refuge for waterfowl, deer, elk and several rare plant communities.

To do: hiking, wildlife viewing, caving.

Facilities: This is not a staffed preserve. Undeveloped trails and seasonal outhouse available for visitors.

Directions: From Highway 30 in Soda Springs, take Highway 34 north, follow until the Kerr McGee plant is on the right. Once past the plant, take a right at Trail Canyon Road. Drive one mile and turn left at the fenced driveway. There are inconspicuous signs. Go one mile and turn left at the fenced driveway.
