J.M. Huber Corporation's Georgia Locations are Committed to The Nature Conservancy's Mission
April 16, 2002—Continuing a strong tradition of volunteering time and funds to the Georgia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, longtime corporate partner J.M. Huber Corporation recently donated $10,840 to the Conservancy as part of Huber's "Adopt-a-Preserve" program. In the innovative nationwide program, the New Jersey-based company provides a cash contribution of $20 to an organization for each hour volunteered by Huber employees at preserves around the country, in addition to providing a cash grant to the organization.
Huber employees and their families volunteer in a variety of activities for The Nature Conservancy's Georgia Chapter, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters it needs to survive. The volunteers complete on-the-ground conservation work ranging from trail marking and clearing, fence repair, and plant surveying at preserves around the state including Heggie's Rock located near Augusta, GA. Volunteers also stuff envelopes and participate in the annual Taste of Jackson community event in Commerce, GA.
"We are very grateful for Huber's continued support of The Nature Conservancy," said Beth Bays, Volunteer Coordinator for the Georgia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. "The dedication and hard work of these volunteers helps us accomplish our mission here in Georgia by increasing awareness of our conservation activities throughout the state."
The Huber employees who participate in the Adopt-a-Preserve program in Georgia work at Huber Engineered Materials' Fairmount and Wrens plants and Huber Engineered Woods' mill in Commerce.
"I was a member of The Nature Conservancy before the Adopt-a-Preserve program came along," said Mack Duncan, Manager of the Wrens Mine and Calcine Plants. "I had been attracted by the Conservancy's focus on preserving special places and their willingness to cooperate with industry. When Huber and The Nature Conservancy joined forces with this effort, I was happy to act as the local coordinator."
