As a volunteer at The Disney Wilderness Preserve you will be involved in this groundbreaking conservation effort while learning about environmental restoration and rare species.
Volunteering at DWP - An Introduction:
The informal session will give an overview of the preserve, show why volunteers are essential to the program, and present upcoming volunteer projects and opportunities. To register, contact Letty Zook or call 407-935-0002, ext. 125.
Science and Restoration Volunteer Opportunities:
These activities include wildlife monitoring, invasive plant removal, native plantings, seed collection or more.
Wildlife Monitoring:
Seed Collection:
Every year our summer prescribed fires produce a beautiful crop of Autumn native plants. This is the season we harvest the seed tops of Florida-native grasses, sedges and flowers. The harvest will be dried and scattered throughout the preserve. The beautiful plants will feed our wildlife and help fight off the non-native invasive plants. We need 10 volunteers each of the seed collection days. Depending on the weather, the ground could be soggy at times, so wearing old (closed) shoes is best. Volunteers should also wear long pants and sun protection.
New volunteers must RSVP and submit a volunteer application. For additional information, contact Letty Zook or call (407) 935-0002, ext. 125.
Building and Grounds Projects:
Weeding & trimming the butterfly garden and native-plant landscaped areas (year-round, M-S), trail, grounds, & building maintenance (year-round, M-S).
Operations and Outreach:
Volunteer needs fluctuate throughout the year and require different activity levels. Find out if a volunteer activity is right for you. Volunteers need to be 12 or older and must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian if under 18 years of age. For more information on volunteer activities, e-mail Letty Zook.
