The Nature Conservancy's Annual Native Plant Fair
Overview:
The Nature Conservancy’s annual Native Plant Fair will provide a festive opportunity to acquaint local residents both with the beauty and ecological importance of native flora in the Keys and with other environmental topics. Initiated in 1999 in response to Hurricane Georges, the Conservancy’s Native Plant Fair is designed to encourage Keys residents to landscape with native plants by providing thousands of native trees and groundcovers to local families and individuals, completely free of charge. Ranging from tall trees to ground covers, these plants not only provide vital habitat and food for native wildlife and migratory birds, but also help to preserve the original ecological character of the Florida Keys. Volunteers are encouraged to contact knorris@tnc.org by July 20, 2007. We'll see you at the Native Plant Fair 2007!
Featured Speaker:
As part of the fair’s goal of raising awareness of local plant species and natural communities, a series of presentations and educational booths are made available to visitors throughout the event. Featuring speakers and organizations from throughout the Keys, these educational components provide a wonderful opportunity for local organizations and individuals to showcase their efforts in environmental education and conservation.
Registration/Fee:
The fair is free and open to the public. Limit 2 free plants per person.
