Riding is a Maryland native who has lived in Delaware since 1986.  Her appreciation for nature and environmental issues goes back to her childhood days on the Kent County MD farm that is currently her getaway and second home.  The family farm was put into a conservation easement program in 1995.

“Contributing to the mission and goals of the Conservancy’s board offers me a great deal of opportunity to expand my personal mission of open space and woodland preservation”, said M.Q. Riding, “I am looking forward to working with and contributing to the very talented and engaged Conservancy board”.

Riding studied geography and cartography at Radford College in Virginia, later earning a B.S. in Marketing Communications at Alameda College in California. She has completed course work towards a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development.  She also completed the Executive Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.

Riding began her career in the engineering field working for consulting engineers as a drafter and designer.  She ultimately moved into marketing and in 1987 began work in business development at Roy F. In her position at Conectiv Energy, Riding has been involved in several corporate environmental enhancement projects, including building and restoring terrapin habitat in Sussex County

Riding’s community activities include leadership roles in the Unitarian Universalist Society, and Planned Parenthood of Delaware where she is a member of the Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee.  She is also actively engaged in grass root environmental programs with the Center for Inland Bays in Rehoboth, Delaware.

M.Q. and her husband of 30 years, Joe Riding, live in Newark, DE.
