TNC Workshops February 19 and 24 For Delaware Landowners

Workshops Present Voluntary Options for Land Protection

Wilmington, DE — January 27, 2009 — The Nature Conservancy in Delaware is hosting a free workshop entitled “Land Conservation Options and Estate Planning for Delaware Landowners”.  This workshop is open to the public and is being offered twice this February at different times and locations—9:00am to 11:30am Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the St. Jones Estuarine Research Reserve in Dover and 6:00pm to 8:30pm Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Carvel Research and Education Center in Georgetown.

Assisting The Nature Conservancy (TNC) staff with this workshop is a team of professionals with expertise in conservation transactions. The presenters include tax accountants, trust and estate attorneys, real estate attorneys, and appraisers.  The workshop will feature review of a number of case studies that highlight the real life financial situations of landowners, demonstrating how various land conservation options can help them meet their personal goals for their land, families, and long-term financial plans. The program will foster discussion and allow time for questions and answers.

The natural features of Delaware provide habitat for over 400 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, and the cultural history of Delaware has yielded working landscapes and a rich tradition of land stewardship.  A growing population and increasing development threaten these unique features of our state.  The future of Delaware’s working landscapes and natural resources hinges on finding cooperative solutions that meet the needs of Delaware’s private landowners.

The St. Jones Estuarine Research Reserve in Dover is located at 818 Kitts Hummock Road.  The Carvel Research and Education Center is located at 16483 County Seat Highway.
