Conservation Options for Delaware Landowners - Can You Afford To Preserve Your Land?

Hosted by The Nature Conservancy in Delaware Chapter

Wilmington, DE — January 30, 2008 — On Tuesday, February 19, 2008, the Delaware Chapter of The Nature Conservancy will host a free workshop entitled “Conservation Options for Delaware Landowners – Can You Afford To Preserve Your Land?” The workshop will be held from 9:00am to noon at the Carvel Research and Education Center in Georgetown, Del.   The workshop will provide in-depth information about voluntary options for land protection available to all Delaware landowners.

Many Delawareans have expressed a strong interest in voluntary conservation, and are looking for opportunities to increase the financial benefits associated with their land while, at the same time, preserving their lifestyle and the natural value of their land now and for generations to come. This workshop was convened in response to this interest and many requests and will be led by a team of first class tax accountants, trust and estate attorneys, and real estate attorneys with expertise in conservation transactions.   The workshop will feature real life financial situations of landowners and illustrate how various land conservation options can help them meet their goals for their land, families, and long-term financial plans.  Workshop participants will be able to ask questions of these experts before, after, and during their formal presentations.

The natural features of Delaware provide habitat for over 400 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, and the cultural history of Delaware has yielded working landscapes and a rich tradition of land stewardship.  A growing population and increasing land use threaten these unique features of our state.  The future of Delaware’s working landscapes and natural resources hinges on finding cooperative and voluntary solutions that meet the needs of Delaware’s private landowners.
