Overview
The soil around the pond on the Lower San Pedro River Preserve was disturbed and invasive plants have begun to take over. It is essential to get these removed so native plants will be able to predominate. This work needs to be completed very soon and your help is needed.
The Preserve is about 3 mi. from the ball field in Dudleyville. The river crossing is passable by most vehicles, but the dirt road is quite pot-holed, so carpooling in a sturdy vehicle is encouraged.
What to Wear
Hat, sturdy shoes/ work boots, pants, work gloves, sunscreen.
What to Bring
Water! Lunch/snacks and bug spray. We'll have plenty of extra water and snacks on hand.
More Info
Difficulty for this activity is rated "moderately strenuous." Soil will be soft and the weeds are not hard to dig up, but the sun is hot in June, and there is little shade around the ponds.
All necessary tools will be provided at the Preserve. Tools include shovels, hula hoes and machetes. Dan Wolgast from The Nature Conservancy will supervise this work day.
This preserve is not open to the public so this will be your opportunity to see the property.
Meet in Dudleyville at baseball field at 8am.
