The Power of Partnership
Verde River Basin Partnership Formed
Prescott, Arizona—February 18, 2006—Birth of a public-private coalition near Prescott is poised to bring science-based water resource management to the Verde River basin. More than 200 people attended a mid-February community forum to launch the Verde River Basin Partnership. Charged with a role similar to the Upper San Pedro Partnership, the new alliance will collaborate on policies and projects aimed at ensuring sustainability of the Verde.
"Through the Verde partnership, we can start a dialogue to educate people about the river,” says the Conservancy’s Verde Program Manager Dan Campbell. “If everyone recognizes water management needs and consequences for both Prescott and Yavapai County, the valley’s smaller towns and wildlife will benefit by getting the water they require.”
The partnership will focus on rivers, creeks and aquifers in the 6,600-square-mile Verde watershed. It runs north to Flagstaff—encompassing Sedona, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Paulden, and also south through Clarkdale, Cottonwood and Camp Verde.
