The Nature Conservancy conducts its first prescribed burn in Nevada. During a week in January, fire crews from the Conservancy and Nevada Division of Forestry oversaw multiple burns on TNC's Torranch Ranch property, located in the Oasis Valley north of Las Vegas. TNC scientists had determined that burning excess vegetation was the most effective way of clearing Mojave Desert wetland and pond habitat that had become choked with reeds and cattails. Full story

Places We Protect

From Red Rock Canyon to Pyramid Lake, TNC and its partners have been protecting Nevada's Last Great Places since 1967. Still among The Conservancy’s smallest chapters, Nevada was its first to safeguard one million acres.  

What's New

Clear Creek Tahoe has donated an 853-acre conservation easement to the Conservancy along Clear Creek, located on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada near Carson City.  Find out more about Clear Creek

Turning the Truckee

TNC and its partners have long been working to turn the tide back in the Truckee River's favor.  This year, building on our success at McCarran Ranch, The Nature Conservancy and its partners launched restoration projects on two additional sites on the lower Truckee River.  Learn more about our efforts at the 102 Ranch and the Lockwood Property. 

Strategic Planning

TNC scientists and trustees recently updated the Nevada Chapter's strategic plan, identifying Nevada's 21 highest priority landscapes and committing TNC resources to protecting 12 of those by 2015.
