Wolves, grizzly bears, dolphins and whales? All in one place?

That place is Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest — and our lead scientist Sanjayan has sent us video, images and diary entries from his trip into one of the last old-growth temperate rainforests.

Follow his week-long expedition right here — including video of grizzly bears and diving into amazing underwater worlds — and then send us your reaction to the journey!

Day 1: Spying on the Great Bear(s)

Today we are in the field testing video cameras that will allow us to monitor the gatherings of bear and other wildlife from afar. This technology — the "Big Brother for Great Bears" — provides a rare opportunity to glimpse the secret lives of large carnivores. Read more.

Day 2: Diving Under the Great Bear Rainforest

Diving into one of the narrow inlets of the Great Bear Rainforest isn't easy — but it's more than worth it. These waters are teeming with fascinating life. Learn more about the colorful waters of Great Bear.

Day 3: The Big House

Before Western contact, more than 30,000 First Nations people lived year-round within the Great Bear Rainforest. Few exist today. I traveled to the Big House, a community center where First Nations people gather to learn about their history and culture. Read more.

Day 4: Big Brother Great Bear

Inspired by the boom in reality television, several remote video cameras in the Great Bear Rainforest are now starting to collect never-before-seen footage of animals in the forest. Take a closer look into the secret lives of carnivores.

Day 5: Salmon, Bear and a Perfect Ecology

Sanjayan gets close to grizzlies feasting on spawning salmon... and muses about the cycle of life that keeps the Great Bear Rainforest thriving.
