December 08, 2008: New Initiative Focuses on Water Quality Improvement in the Mississippi River Basin & Gulf of Mexico
Monsanto Company launched a new effort to help reduce nutrients and sediments in agricultural runoff by partnering with The Nature Conservancy, Iowa Soybean Association, Delta Wildlife and The National Audubon Society on conservation projects in the Mississippi River Basin.

November 10, 2008: The Nature Conservancy Hires Assistant Director to Help Restore the Upper Mississippi River
The Nature Conservancy announced the hiring of Gretchen Benjamin as assistant director of its Upper Mississippi River Program today. Benjamin will help organize the Conservancy’s efforts to develop a basin-wide strategy that recognizes the river’s tremendous ecological and economic value.

January 04, 2008: The McKnight Foundation Awards $800,000 to The Nature Conservancy for its Mississippi River Work
The Nature Conservancy joins the McKnight Foundation in announcing that the Conservancy has been awarded an $800,000 grant for its efforts to conserve and restore the Mississippi River from its headwaters in Minnesota to its mouth in Louisiana.

July 26, 2006: Great Rivers Partnership Celebrates the Passage of Water Resources Development Act
The long-awaited Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) passed the full Senate July 19, putting it on track for congressional approval. The bill now heads to a House-Senate conference committee before moving to the President for final approval.

January 15, 2005: $12 Million from Caterpillar, Inc. to The Nature Conservancy Launches Great Rivers Partnership
The Nature Conservancy, with a generous $12 million gift from the Caterpillar Foundation of Caterpillar Inc., is undertaking an ambitious project that will guide protection of the world’s vanishing freshwater supply and transform the way large working river systems are preserved and protected. The Great Rivers Partnership will create integrated models for sustaining great river systems of the world.
