Perspectives

Stories from the Great Rivers Partnership

The Conservancy’s strength comes from the people who commit their time, energy and experience to making things happen.

In Their Own Words

Every person who works on these projects brings a unique perspective. For some the partnership is a natural extension of their work on a local project over many years, for others it is an opportunity to extend the reach of their work to new geographies:

  • Glauco Freitas - As a key member of the Conservancy's team in Brazil, Freitas has worked extensively on the Pantanal. Through the Great Rivers Partnership, he is bringing his expertise to the United States.
  • Carlos Klink - With more than a dozen years experience working on South American rivers and wetlands, Klink recently started working with the Conservancy’s team in Brazil. He intends to bring together stakeholders.
  • Karin Krchnak - Krchnak, a senior advisor to the Conservancy on freshwater issues, recently visited Africa's Zambezi River.
  • Doug Oberhelman - A trip to South America spurred Oberhelman’s lifelong interest in conservation and his work as a trustee and advisor to the Conservancy in Illinois.
  • Yao Yin - Born in China but now working for the USGS in the United States, Yao Yin brings a unique perspective to international river conservation.
