The Conservancy and Partners Present at World Water Week
The Nature Conservancy and several partner organizations led a session on "Partnering on River Basin Conservation" during World Water Week, August 12-18, 2007, in Stockholm, Sweden. The Conservancy’s partners include Brazil's national water agency, Agência National de Águas (ANA); African Wildlife Foundation (AWF); U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; China's national water agency, Changjiang Water Resources Commission (CWRC); and Caterpillar Inc. Michael Reuter, the director of the Conservancy’s Great Rivers Partnership, chaired the session.
World Water Week is an annual, global conference that brings together scientific, business, policy and civic communities to address water and economic development issues and efforts. This year’s theme was “Progress and Prospects on Water: Striving for Sustainability in a Changing World.” More than 2,400 participants from 130 countries attended. Water management was one of the key issues discussed, and the Conservancy’s Great Rivers Partnership was a significant contributor on this topic.
Session presenters provided real-world examples of how partners can work together, across cultures and geographies, to ensure rivers are managed in ways that benefit both people and nature.
