May, 2004, St. Thomas, USVI — The Conservancy invited the public to partake in our Magens Bay Tropical Discovery Hike to spread awareness among local residents and tourists of this and other conservation priorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Though the trail had previously been open to groups for a small fee, the May opening marked the first time that the trail was open to everyone free of charge. Sixty-five residents and visitors braved showers to hike the one and half mile trail. Since then the Conservancy has continued to improve the trail by adding more signage and boardwalks in low-lying segments.

Tropical Discovery Hike
Magens Bay has great ecological, economical and cultural value and provides a fantastic setting for educational activities.  Hiking down the Conservancy’s Tropical Discovery Trail, viewing historical ruins, and observing plants and wildlife are a few ways to learn from this remarkable natural treasure.  Exposing people of all ages to all that can be explored and discovered within the boundaries of this beautiful land will provide them with a sense of the area’s history and will demonstrate the value of our natural resources.
