This half-moon shaped string of islands, known as the Lesser Antilles, stretches 600 miles (966 kilometers) from the U.S. and British Virgin Islands in the north and to Trinidad in the south. More than 18 distinct political units exist on this Caribbean chain of 60-plus islands and hundreds of cayes.
