Brief Biography
Jerry Touval is responsible for directing The Conservancy's South America conservation science program. He works with staff, other conservation groups and government agencies to identify priority areas, large-scale threats to biodiversity and opportunties for conservation. He also develops ways to measure results of the Conservancy's efforts.
Prior to this, he held positions as Director of Science for Eastern South America, Colombia Country Program Director, Conservation Program Director for the Andean Division. Before joining the Conservancy, he was International Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where he developed courses for Latin American and Caribbean biologists and wildlife administrators on habitat and endangered species management, and migratory bird conservation. He also worked as a Wildlife Biologist for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, leading the Threatened and Endangered Species Program for the Eastern Regional Office. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras, working on a national watershed inventory team. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management from Rutgers University. He is fluent in Spanish.
