The Nature Conservancy–Flickr™ Photo Contest Hits Record Participation Numbers

There’s Still Time to Enter The Nature Conservancy’s 2007 Photo Contest

ARLINGTON, VA — December 18, 2007 — With more than 50,000 images shared to date, The Nature Conservancy’s online FlickrTM photo community has reached a participation milestone.  Initially launched as an entry point for The Nature Conservancy’s Annual Photo Contest, the site now additionally serves to engage and inspire thousands of nature-lovers around the world.

“Whether you choose to enter the contest, or just want to share a favorite nature image, posting your photo can help to motivate others to do more to conserve our most critical natural resources,” said Sue Citro, Senior Digital Membership Manager. “It just takes a second to upload your image and join with others to make a statement about the beauty of our natural world.”

Entries for the 2007 Photo Contest — original digital images of landscapes, waters, plants, animals, humans in the outdoors, or Nature Conservancy preserves — will be accepted until December 31.  Thus far, entries have ranged from all seven continents, each habitat type and tons of cute critters.

Finalists and grand prizes will be selected in two different categories, Best Nature Photo and Best Photo from a Place We Protect.  The Best Nature Photo will be featured on the Conservancy’s homepage and The Best Photo from a Place We Protect will be printed in the 2009 Nature Conservancy calendar, distributed to nearly 1 million people each year.

To enter, upload your photo(s) to the Conservancy's free public group on Flickr™ and follow the instructions provided to submit your pictures to the proper category.  Or, if you prefer, you can complete our online form and e-mail each photo individually.

The contest is open to all participants age 18 and older regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.  Photo submissions must be uploaded by 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on December 31, 2007.  Please review the full rules before entering.
