The Nature Conservancy Mourns the Deaths of Seven WWF Staff Members and 17 Others
Statement from Steven J. McCormick, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Nature Conservancy
Arlington, Virginia, Sept. 25, 2006 — It is with a profound sense of sadness that I and the entire staff of The Nature Conservancy send our heartfelt condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) staff, government officials and crew that perished Saturday, Sept. 23, in a helicopter crash in Nepal.
The helicopter went down in poor weather on its return from a ceremony where the management of a conservation project around the Himalayan mountain of Kanchenjunga was officially handed over to a coalition of local communities.
In memory of the 24 individuals killed in the crash, I've asked Conservancy staff to pause today at 3:00pm, ET for a moment of silence to reflect on this tragedy and to honor the spirit, dedication and hard work of those lost.
With great regret,

Steven J. McCormick
President and CEO
The Nature Conservancy
