Glen Hansard is the Academy Award–winning songwriter, vocalist and guitarist for the Irish band The Frames and one part of folk-pop duo The Swell Season, with Czech pianist and vocalist Markéta Irglová.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1970, Hansard appeared in the BAFTA winning film The Commitments. He also starred in Once, and his song from that film, "Falling Slowly," written with Irglová, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2007, as well as other major awards and nominations. The Broadway production of Once won eight 2012 Tony awards, including Best Musical.

Recently, Hansard appeared in the documentary The Swell Season, and contributed two songs to The Hunger Games soundtrack.

His first solo album, Rhythm and Repose, was released in June of 2012. The artist says it was more than 20 years in the making, and an NPR review describes the album as following Hansard’s familiar themes of “unrequited longing, mistakes repeated, the enduring pursuit of grace and joy… channeled here through a mature mind in a mellow mood.”
