Senior Marine Scientist
I’m a marine scientist, with more than 15 years experience in coral reef conservation and management. Key areas of expertise include: designing resilient networks of marine protected areas (MPAs) to achieve fisheries, biodiversity and climate change objectives; monitoring and measuring success of marine conservation; coral reef fish ecology; and ensuring that marine conservation is based on the best available scientific information.
Over the last few years, I've provided scientific advice and training to field practitioners in marine conservation in over 20 countries in the Western Pacific, Southeast Asia, West Indian Ocean (particularly East Africa), Latin America and the Caribbean. Currently, I’m focused on providing technical assistance for integrating fisheries, biodiversity and climate change objectives into MPA network design in the Coral Triangle and Micronesia.
I hold a Ph.D. in marine biology from James Cook University of North Queensland, Australia. In addition to my work for the Conservancy, I am also an Adjunct Professor at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, Australia (2008-present).
