Strategy Director, Development by Design
Bruce McKenney is Strategy Director for the Nature Conservancy’s Development by Design program, balancing development and conservation goals to achieve sustainable outcomes. He has 18 years of experience applying economic and policy analysis to advance environmental goals and human well-being. Prior to joining the Conservancy in 2006, Bruce was a Senior Associate at Hardner & Gullison Associates providing technical support for biodiversity conservation; Program Director for Natural Resources and Environment at the Cambodia Development Resource Institute; and an Associate at Industrial Economics, Incorporated conducting economic and regulatory analyses. His work includes projects and studies for the World Bank, World Commission on Dams, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, World Wildlife Fund, Moore Foundation, and National Parks Conservation Association. Bruce holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, an Honors Degree in African Studies from the University of Cape Town, and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science from Brown University.
