The Nature Conservancy occasionally offers a limited number of internships working with ecologists and other Conservancy staff.
Interns have made valuable contributions to The Nature Conservancy through their work and have used their experience to further their academic and professional careers in the environmental field.

The Nature Conservancy's Ellsworth Creek Preserve is looking for a summer intern! This is a full time unpaid internship between the dates of July 2 – July 31. This field position is an opportunity to work alongside Conservancy scientists and conduct stewardship activities on Ellsworth Creek Preserve and the Clearwater Preserve including invasive species removal, vegetation management, mapping of invasive species, garbage removal, road, trail and gate maintenance, and signing. Other tasks include:
• Act as crew supervisor for two weeks guiding a group of high school interns in various stewardship projects
• Perform independent field tasks and works with volunteers and LEAF students on Forest GAP study project, inventorying plant and tree species, establishing permanent plot layout and entering filed data into database.
• Assist WA Coast Forester on Restoration Thinning and road decommissioning and road maintenance projects.
• Conduct photo monitoring on completed restoration projects.
• Assist and work independently identifying, mapping and marking large Old Growth remnant trees within the Ellsworth Creek Preserve.
• Lead and assist in volunteer work parties and coordination
Requirements:
• Excellent physical condition. Ability to perform extremely physical work in steep, rough and remote terrain under inclement weather conditions both independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver’s license, Experience using 4-wheel drive vehicle preferred
• Proficiency in forests sampling techniques and field sampling equipment such as GPS, forest mensuration tools, field data loggers and map reading skills.
• Ability to conduct field work with a broad knowledge of forest systems, silviculture techniques and strong knowledge of flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest
• Ability to safely use and maintain tools and equipment, including chainsaws, brush cutters, backpack sprayers, and four-wheel drive vehicles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to interact professionally with TNC staff, USFWS, donors, the public and volunteers
