Washington's LEAF Interns Hike Through the Skagit Tidelands

The Washington chapter of The Nature Conservancy is hosting three high school interns for summer 2011 as part of the Conservancy's LEAF program.

The Conservancy's LEAF program is dedicated to empowering the next generation of conservation leaders.

Washington's three interns, shown here with their mentor and a Conservancy staff member, spent their first day in the field hiking to Craft Island.

Craft Island is located in Washington's Skagit Valley. It offers 360-degree views of Puget Sound.

LEAF interns Tiffany Smith, 17, and Khadijah Michael, 17, take a break after hiking to the top of Craft Island.
