Matt Phillips, The Nature Conservancy's director of government relations, testified before the House Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism. His remarks focused on two of the committee’s interim charges:
· Interim Charge # 3: Recommend approaches to improve long-term funding for state park acquisition, development and maintenance.
· Interim Charge #4: Study the effects the drought and wildfires have had on tourism and recreation in Texas. Make recommendations for ways to prevent future losses.

Between legislative sessions the standing and special committees in the Texas House and Senate study important policy issues known as interim charges. The study of interim charges is meant to inform both the legislature and the public about the major issues facing our state, and produces policy recommendations for the legislature to consider during the next regular session. The Nature Conservancy will be closely following and providing testimony on several charges this year before the next session begins in January of 2013.
