Effects of Prescribed Burning on Biomass Production in Eastern South Dakota and Western Minnesota: 2011-2013 (744 KB pdf)

There is limited data on the impacts of controlled fire on grassland forage production in the Great Plains. For three years, we took forage clippings on burned and unburned areas comparing the same soil types. This comparison enabled us to tell producers how much more forage would be produced by using fire as a tool for better pasture management.
