Story Highlights
  • Join Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, environmentalists in Rhode island and across the country, in support of the National Endowment for the Oceans(NEO) as the bill heads to the US House of Representatives under the Transportation Act that includes more than $2 billion for marine and coastal conservation.
  • John Torgan, Director of Ocean and Coastal Conservation for The Nature Conservancy, praises the NEO as important funding for water quality, conservation, and habitat restoration that provides "real benefits to people who love the water and the outdoors." (projo.com)

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and environmentalists across Rhode Island met at Jacob's Point Marsh in Warren, RI to demonstrate how the habitat restoration of Jacob's Marsh epitomizes the potential for success of the National Endowment for the Oceans(NEO).  This bill, put forth by Senator Whitehouse, has unanimous support by environmentalists in Rhode Island, including The Nature Conservancy, Save the Bay, local land trusts, and more.  Fifty percent of the interest generated by The Gulf Coast Restoration Trust Fund set up under the RESTORE Act will fund the NEO which in turn will provide grants to support projects in Rhode Island and across the country to restore habitats, manage fisheries, plan for sustainable coastal development, acquire coastal properties for preservation, relocate critical coastal infrastructure, provide for recreational opportunities, and more.
Take action to support the RESTORE Act as it moves through the US House of Representatives under the Transportation Act.
