OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Something wild is about to happen this Friday at the H&8th Night Market! Local artist Bob Sober, Oklahoma State University and The Nature Conservancy are joining forces this Friday for a larger than life exploration of some of nature’s most overlooked creatures: insects!

Giant insects will be on display in the Conservancy’s Nature in Art Series auction featuring art by Bob Sober and live bugs will be eager for attention at OSU’s insect petting zoo this Friday, June 27 at the H&8th Night Market.

“Having lived 60 years under the perception that insects were pests best found on the bottom of my shoe, the discoveries were nothing less than shocking,” Bob Sober said. “The beauty of these tiny creatures is, to say the least, unexpected.”

Through an in-depth technique called photo stacking, Bob is able to capture the unexpected beauty of these tiny creatures through an assembly of multiple photographs ranging from 30 to over 2,000 images.

Bob's beautiful bugs are available for auction online now until 7pm on June 27. The auction will then continue in-person at H&8th 7pm and conclude at 11pm. Thirty percent of proceeds will go right back to nature by benefiting The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma!

If giant images of insects aren’t enough for you, be sure to crawl on over to the live bug petting zoo! See more than 25 species of living critters at OSU’s Insect Adventure exhibit! Bring your kids and let entomologist Andrine Shufran walk you through an exciting discovery of the insect world!

“Looking at insects through a magnified, artistic lens can quickly change the human perspective of them being “pests”,” Mike Fuhr, State Director of The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma said. “We simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to share a hands-on, larger than life exploration of the amazing world of insects with H&8th attendees. Their vibrant colors, rich textures and intriguing patterns are a must see!”
