Did you know that The Nature Conservancy’s Mashomack Preserve protects one-third of Shelter Island for future generations? Join us for a two day visit to see first-hand the work being done to preserve and maintain this freshwater wetland, which provides undisturbed nesting habitat for birds and turtles as well as a refuge for rare beach plants.
Planned activities include a guided tour by the Preserve Director, who will show us the different conservation activities taking place across the property, from studies of oak forest succession and shellfish restoration work to activities focused on protecting ospreys, endangered piping plover and least tern. We will also participate in a volunteer activity Saturday afternoon to provide a hands-on learning experience. When not exploring this beautiful preserve, we will have the opportunity to relax in front of a bonfire, meet new friends, and unwind in the solitude of this beautiful 2,039 acre preserve.
Transportation will depart from Manhattan to Shelter Island, NY. For more details and to RSVP, email YPGEvents@tnc.org.
