"Giving back to this amazing place we call New Hampshire while Fundraising for The Nature Conservancy, along with reaching our goal and completing The Ford IRONMAN Lake Placid, has been the greatest journey of my life!"
~Jeremy Woodward
With a winning smile, Jeremy Woodward successfully completed the Ford USA Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, New York on Sunday, July 25th. He crossed the finish line in 15:54:07. New Hampshire Chapter state director, Daryl Burtnett, was in attendance to cheer him along the way.
"No matter how badly it hurt... 2.4 mile swim; 112 mile bike; and THEN a full 26.2 mile marathon... Jeremy wouldn't quit," notes Daryl. "And another thing, his smile never quit either... What spirit!"
The weather in Lake Placid was drizzly with a light breeze - great weather in which to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run a full 26.2-mile marathon.
Jeremy kickstarted his day at 7am with 3,100 other athletes in the 74-degree Mirror Lake for the swim, which he finished in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Then came Jeremy's strongest suit - the bike ride. He completed the 112-mile journey in 7:47:43, averaging just over 14 mph. The last leg of the race had Jeremy running through downtown Lake Placid, past the lake, through beautiful tree-lined river scenery and up and down a few rolling hills. He crossed the finish line, located down the "finish chute" in the Olympic Speedskating Oval, in 6:02:21.
"Giving back to this amazing place we call New Hampshire while Fundraising for The Nature Conservancy, along with reaching our goal and completing The Ford IRONMAN Lake Placid, has been the greatest journey of my life!" says Jeremy. "With everyone's help I was able to blow away my goal of raising $140,600 for people and nature. In fact, together we raised over $195,000, earning the Conservancy an additional $4,000 from the Janus Fund!"
So what's next for Jeremy? "When it was over I told my wife 'never again'," notes Jeremy. "But about 5 minutes later I was already talking about the next one!"
We're with you all the way, Jeremy!
