Unknown to the rest of the world, a 227-acre tract of old, high quality forest survived in southwestern New Hampshire virtually undisturbed since farmland abandonment in the 19th century. By the end of 1994, all that was about to change. Together, The Nature Conservancy and the extraordinary grassroots support of neighbors, schoolchildren, conservation commissions, garden clubs, local businesses and concerned citizens from the Granite State and beyond, saved Sheldrick Forest. Now the cathedral-like preserve contains some of the most extraordinary and oldest trees in New Hampshire.
On June 25th we hope you will come celebrate this New Hampshire gem. Grab your hiking boots and bring the family for an easy and fun hike guided by one of our ecologists. Feeling more ambitious? Come early and explore Sheldrick Forest on the longer hike. Pack your lunch and blanket and picnic with us while hearing from neighbors, friends and New Hampshire Chapter staff as they recall this incredible protection effort. Enjoy delicious desserts compliments of Black Forest Cafe in Amherst.
Please bring your picnic blanket and lunch. Dessert and beverages will be provided.
