Resources for Private Landowners

Programs and easements can help make private property more suitable for native species

Conservation Easements
On July 8th, 2011, Governor Jay Nixon signed new conservation easement legislation into law.  Learn more about conservation easements and why this legislation is a win-win for nature and for people.

United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
Missouri NRCS offers programs that help private landowners reduce soil erosion, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damages caused by floods and other natural disasters. These programs sustain agricultural productivity and environmental quality while improving the economy and the natural beauty of the landscape.

United States Department of Agriculture, Farm Service Agency (FSA)
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) offers State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE), a voluntary program designed to address state and regional high-priority wildlife objectives. Producers within a designated SAFE area can submit offers to voluntarily enroll acres for 10-15 years. In exchange, producers receive annual rental payments, incentives, and cost-share assistance to establish, improve, and/or connect higher-quality habitat.
